Online shoppers are being warned to book their Christmas delivery slots early this year to avoid being disappointed.
Before you book your slot, here are a couple more tips: Delivery pass customers may get early access. For example, Sainsbury's customers with delivery passes can already bag a Christmas delivery slot, while most of those without will have to wait until the end of the week. Consider click and collect.
This year is expected to be busier than ever before with an even higher demand for delivery services amid the coronavirus pandemic.
Supermarket home deliveries have surged in popularity for both food and non-essential items as people try to avoid crowds at the shops.
Some supermarkets, including Asda, already have their slots open, while others will be releasing their Christmas delivery schedules later this month.
Experts are warning people to be extra organised this year to make sure they don’t miss out.

The IMRG, the industry body for online retailers, warned that shops could face a 30% increase in online sales during the festive season, or as high as 50% if shops closed.
Here’s a list of when you should book your online slot for Christmas at all the major supermarkets.
Asda
Asda have already released their Christmas delivery slots – so you’ll need to act quickly.
The supermarket giant has launched the dates earlier than usual as last year they went live on November 19.
But some areas are already fully booked for Christmas week (December 20-24).
Don’t worry too much though as if you are struggling to get a slot, you can still order online via their click and collect service.
It does mean you’ll have to head to the store to pick up your order, but at least your order will be picked for you so you’ll avoid the crowds and queues at the tills.
Delivery costs between £3 and £5.50, depending on the day and time.
If your order is under £40 there is an extra £3 cost or £25 for click and collect.
Tesco
Shoppers who have joined the Delivery Saver scheme will be able to book a Christmas slot from 7am on November 13.
The premium service costs £7.99 a month, and means customers get early and priority access to Christmas delivery dates.
All other customers will be able to book a slot from 7am on November 20.
Tesco said: “Slots fill up quickly, so set a reminder to make sure you don’t miss out. Don’t forget, you can book a slot early if you’re a Delivery Saver customer.”
The supermarket also operates a click and collect service that costs £1.50.
Delivery costs between £4.50 and £5.50. There is an additional £4 charge for deliveries under £40 and click and collect orders that total less than £25.
Morrisons
The store is yet to confirm its Christmas delivery slot launch date yet, but we’ll update you as soon as we know more.
In 2019 slots opened up on November 27 for deliveries between December 20 and 24.
While delivery pass customers were given early access from November 6.

Sainsbury’s
Sainsbury’s has released their Christmas delivery slots and click and collect service guide.
- For delivery on 20 December, slots can be booked from 29 November
- For delivery on 21 December, slots can be booked from 30 November
- For delivery on 22 December, slots can be booked from 1 December
- For delivery on 23 December, slots can be booked from 2 December
- The supermarket does not offer any deliveries on December 24, 25 or 26.
The supermarket website said: “Get ahead of the crowds and get early access to Christmas slots if you have a delivery pass. Early access is available to customers with a valid delivery pass through to December 23.”
However, no details have been released yet on the early access dates. New customers need to sign up before December 19.
Sainsbury’s charges £7 for delivery on orders under £40 and between 50p and £7 for orders worth more, depending on the day and time slot.
There’s a minimum order value of £25 but delivery is free for orders over £100 booked for between Monday and Thursday after 2pm.
Click and collect is also available.
Sainsbury’s has two delivery passes – the anytime pass and the midweek pass.
The anytime pass gives you one free delivery a day, seven days a week when you spend £40 or more.
This pass costs £60 for 12 months, £35 for six months or £20 for three months.
The midweek delivery pass igives you one free delivery a day on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays when you spend £40 or more.
This pass costs £30 for a 12 months, £18 for a six months or £10 for three months. Any deliveries outside this time slots are charged the normal rates.
Waitrose Christmas delivery slots
Christmas delivery slots are already available to book for the dates between December 20 and 24.
However, the store says that demand is already high. It said: “The demand for Christmas delivery is high. If you can’t find a delivery slot to suit, we still have Entertaining collection slots available for your Christmas turkey and festive feasts. Find out more about our Christmas food to order service and book a slot here.”
Waitrose offers free delivery seven days a week between 6am and 10pm. Orders must total £40 or more to qualify for delivery.

Iceland delivery slots
Iceland told The Sun that is doesn’t offer customers the chance to book Christmas delivery slots early.
Instead, it will just operate as usual with delivery slots released six days in advance.
Iceland offers free next day delivery, Monday through to Sunday between 8am and 9pm.
There’s a minimum spend of £35.

According to Tesco, delivery slots for Christmas is launching on November 13th for delivery saver customers and November 20 for non-delivery savers.
The Tesco website says: 'Slots fill up quickly so make sure you get a slot' If you think you're going to forget, you can add a calendar reminder so you can grab your food.
Asda

Asda has confirmed that its delivery slots will open on November 6 but for those with a delivery pass, you can pre-order your food on October 30.
The website says: 'Our delicious Food to Order range includes starters, mains, desserts and party foods, as well as a selection of vegan foods. Whether delivered to your door or collected from your local store, your festive feast will make it a Christmas to be remembered'.
Morrisons

The website reads: 'Take the stress out of Christmas with Sainsbury’s Food to order. It’s easy. Simply order your special Christmas meal or impressive Boxing Day buffet and leave the rest to us. We'll make sure it's ready for the big day, so you can enjoy the festivities'.
